Prove Before Prototype
There has been a noticeable increase in the demand for FEA. Increasingly designs have to be proven before prototyping. This has the added benefit of skipping several stages of prototype development.
The Works Design Services has this capability and there has been a massive increase in the use of FEA software. For some appliances, this is critical especially lifting gear and steel structures. The FEA analysis will determine the thickness of materials and therefore the weight of the design.
Finding the weakest link
Where is the Design going to most likely going to fail? How thin and light can the design be made before it fails? What is the strongest yet lightest material we can get away with? These are all questions to be asked and need answering?
